Project Details
The project consisted of the excavation of 93,630m3 of silty sand within Port Stanley Harbour to reduce instances of flooding along Kettle Creek. Open-water disposal sites were located 3km and 6km from the harbour entrance. All dredging was conducted utilizing Dean’s GPS-positioned hydraulic excavator. Open-water disposal was performed with Dean tugs and 600m3 dump-scows.
Turbidity monitoring was conducted at the dredge site and in Lake Erie, as the dump-sites were upstream from the municipality’s water intake. No shut downs due to turbidity exceedances were triggered. As a result of Dean’s aggressive pricing and Dean’s early completion of the original contract quantity, the Owner elected to increase the dredge quantity from the original 88,000m3.
