Project Details
Marine-based supply and installation of 360 lineal meters of steel sheet piling in a bin wall configuration for the construction of the port’s expansion wharf. Supply and installation of 126 below-water and 64 above-water, 63m dia. high-tensile tie-rods. Installation of 23,000t of backfill stone using dump-scows and a crane-mounted clamshell.
Lake Huron water levels were at near-record highs during the time of construction enabling waves to overtop the port’s protective breakwaters.
A DGPS positioning system was incorporated on a Dean designed and built, floating driving template that incorporated hydraulically actuated driving beams. The bin wall was installed in stages, utilizing multiple temporary bulkheads to allow for backfilling operations to proceed without interrupting the lower tie-rod placement operations.
